Colin Metz

Hi there!

This site was setup to document a little bit about myself, my research, technical efforts and interests, and other relevant topics.

About me

I’m currently a first-year MS graduate student and researcher in Electrical Engineering and Applied Physics at Santa Clara University.

Previously, I studied mechanical engineering, and a bit of physics and electrical engineering, at the University of Nevada, Reno.

I’m fascinated by the intersection of cutting-edge physics research and real world engineering application. It’s something that constantly drives my research goals, intellectual passions, technological affinity, and eagerness to contribute.

As far as specifics go, my research and interests revolve around how condensed matter physics, electromagnetism, quantum optics and photonics, and nanotechnology can apply to quantum information, as well as future logic, sensing, and computing technology. I’m also interested in STEM outreach, and bridging the gap from research lab to industry. Particularly with regards to deep tech ventures, raising capital and seed, and funding intellectual property/research.

Outside of the lab and classroom, you may find me on a surfboard, mountain bike, hike, or the golf course!

If you are an SCU student, you can find me in SCDI 4027 on most weekdays. Otherwise, I am always happy to respond to emails, please feel free to reach out!
